Spiritual Identity

February 19, 2018

Spiritual identity means we are not what we do or what people say about us. And we are not what we have. We are the beloved daughters and sons of God. –Henri Nouwen

Beloved—a bit of an old-fashioned word, used in the past primarily between two people who treasured each other beyond measure.  It was an endearment of the highest order often found in letters and poetry.  Modernity entered and when we wrote at all, we rarely used the word “beloved” to address the one we loved.  But we are loved and beloved by the God who is one with the Universal Light of Love and we are pulled into that Love because we are created to BE LOVED.  We lose ourselves sometimes; people hurt us by word or deed.  We may fall into believing that we are not worthy of love.  But that is not our spiritual identity; that is merely allowing the disappointments and pains of this world to momentarily blind us from who we truly are—the beloved daughters and sons of the God of Love.  Namaste

Gentle Thoughts:  Can you embrace your belovedness today?
