At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or
further away from it. ~~Thich Nhat Hanh
Thich Nhat Hanh or Thay as he is called by his followers is probably in the last few weeks or months of his life in this world. At 94, struggling with the aftereffects of a stroke that he suffered six years ago, he has returned to Plum Village to be cared for and loved by his beloved community in Vietnam that is his home. His work and writings have affected me in more ways than can be counted, at least in this lifetime. Most importantly, he taught me the importance of stillness. This is a difficult time to find that stillness as our hearts may be full of the noise that surrounds our lives. But, in the stillness, we hear the soft yearning of Spirit. How often does the cacophony of what may seem like chaos drown out those soft whispers? "Come closer", Spirit says. Come closer and know the path of quiet--that mystical quiet for which your heart seeks. Today is a day that we can dedicate to calming the distractions and make the decision to enter the stillness. And, most of all, today is the day that we can give ourselves over to rest and awareness in the wholeness of pure Love. May it be so and may we remember the gifts with which Thich Nhat Hanh has blessed the world, Namaste
Gentle Thoughts: What is keeping you from hearing the “soft yearning of Spirit today? Can you stay in the moment of stillness even in the midst of your daily life? If you are perhaps unfamiliar with the teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh, his words will help lead the way to the quiet of a still heart.
